Unusual Day in San Salvador

So this week I went to San Salvador to once again try to engage the ringworms in battle, this time with the help of a dermatologist. I have had this now for over 1 ½ months so any day now... I took a bus into San Sal which is always interesting especially since once I get into the city I NEVER have any idea which bus will take me where and even really how to get to the PC office. Luckily, my memory and luck kicked in and I managed to find it. Then, after I got my paper work I started the walk to the dermatologist. I found it after about 30 minutes....it was beautiful. I have never ever said this about a doctor's office before but it was quite apparent that really really rich people go see this guy for fun things like Botox. So, I picked up Architectural Digest with Brad Pitt on the cover and felt pleased that I could look at all my future (unrealistic future) houses and be seen shortly by a doctor who went to NYU for part of his Med School residency. The interesting thing was that this doctor didn't write anything down that I said, he typed it! He is like leap years ahead of what the heatlh system in the US is trying to become. He sat at a computer while I talked about how long and how many ringworms I have. After about 20 minutes, I got a new pill and cream. YAY a pill. What more could I ask for...en serio. I needed a pill.

After the dermo, I went to get sushi bc I saw some volunteers eating in a place while I was looking for the office. I went in and asked for a menu in spanish to the Asian lady at the counter. We then had a really really weird intercultural exchange where I asked for sushi, she said they were out and it was all in SPANISH! It was bizarre to be talking to an Asian person with perfect spanish! For those of you who have been abroad I am sure you have experienced this weirdness but it really was my first time. It reminded me of when I was in France and saw all these ethnicities I think of always speaking English, speaking French! It is actually really cool to have that ignorance bubble bursted. I finally got over the awe of it and told her I wanted sushi so I had to go somewhere else. I walked across the street to another place which was way swankier and made this PCV feel WAY out of place bc I was dressed like PCV Addie, not US Addie...so I got it para llevar and went on my merry way. I probably had the best miso soup EVER. It had squid in it- my favorite. Yes, it was expensive but really comprable to US sushi just not on a PC budget. Luckily, PC pays for your medical visit lunches so I only went $3 over my budget.

So that was my unusual day in the capital. I figure they might all be that unusual when I go in but we'll see.
