My Very Good End of the Week

Well, this week was a good one. Let me tell you...

Well, it started off with Cleo deciding trips to the roof were a good idea whenever I would throw her outside around 4 am when she usually wakes up wanting to play (aka bite my face and toes). This would be fine since there are definitely rats in the roof that need to be hunted. Only one problem, dumb kitty has no idea how to get down once she gets up there! Its like the cat stuck in the tree! What do cats do that? Then she is too scared to have me even help her so I have to trick her with food and grab whatever I can to yank her down which she certainly does NOT like. Well, I can't think of how to stop her, so I have been keeping her inside which is hard because I'll close the mosquito net to keep her out and she just starts digging in the mattress to get under the net! Ugh this kitten! I love her but she is a hand-full sometimes!

Anyways, about a month ago another volunteer was telling me that I needed to check out this podcast about cooking. I got to thinking how much I missed having a functioning one. It seems my 5 year old ipod finally gave out on me right after training here. You see, I had the super old ones that didn't have color and weighed like 10 lbs. It was such a good little machine...but finally I decided to toss it since it died and froze to often for me to ever take it anywhere. Anyways, I manned up and made my first credit card charge, declaring it a mental health purchase...my sanity is hard to keep here and as we all know-- music helps. So, Dad mailed it to me and the 8th ranked most reliable postal service in the world had it waiting for me in the office this week! I was over the moon! How awesome is music and podcasts and 21st century technology! For months, I've seen Salve's walking around listening to the music they download on their phones (much like ipods) and can't believe I didn't do this sooner!

Then, this Saturday an 8 month project finally came to close. The church youth group and I planted 20 trees in the plaza. It was a huge victory for reforestation, youth, and the community! ok, well maybe that's a bit overstated but seriously it felt good to finally get it done. Now, I will just have to protect them from kids and cows. I am hoping the Mayor will put barb wire around them to help keep both of those groups out.

Today, I made signs to advertise my "Moms versus Daughters" Softball tourney I am going to have in two weeks to raise money for my English summer course. In December, my honors English students will spend a week of their vacation learning dramas in English (and performing them for their parents!), going to visit a University sponsored English- learning radio show, and then capping it all off with a trip to the local waterpark (a bunch of pools and a wave pool)! The tourney and the course should be super fun and can't wait to do both!

So, that's it for me! I am in a superb mood which I will fight like hell to hold onto :)

Hi there, it is so exciting to read your blog. You are doing great work! My Name is Roberto, and I am currently a PCV serving in the Dominican Republic. I was doing some research on PCV´s currently serving in El Salvador and came accross your blog. To make a long story short, I was born in El Salvador and raised in the US. In December I will be returning to San Salvador and I would like to visit the PC office in San Salvador as well as possibly set up some project site visits with some fellow volunteers there, I think it will be an awesome experience for me. I can´t find a contact email or phone number for the PC office, could you do me a favor and send me some information that could help me? You can email me at brodi009ATyahoo.com
