I thought about this about a month ago when I started playing with that girl's soccer team. There was lots of rain and it was definitely accompanied by lightening but no one seemed alarmed by it even when I pointed it out. They were definitely more concerned with getting wet when it started pouring cats and dogs. So, it led me to wonder if maybe no one here ever gets struck by lightning. That would be a definite NO. According to this article it does happen and it happens a mere hour from where I live.

So, now I am wondering what I should do the next time I am in that situation. I can't even remember where a safe place is when you are in an open field. I should probably Google that immediately...
