Feliz Navidad

Well, here comes my first Christmas ever outside of the great State of Texas. Usually, Christmas for me is in the snowy plains of Amarillo or the moderately cool (not quite winter) terrain of San Antonio. Instead, it got be at least 85-95 degrees (no thermometers) and if I wore anything besides a skirt and sandals I would probably pass out. Christmas in El Salvador is kind of different. To them, the BIG day is not the 25th. Instead, its the 24th! No one is really sure why but it doesn't really matter because here its not such a greeting card holiday. Yes, the families eat together traditionally but there are not tons of presents dished out and I have seen very very few Christmas trees. A traditional meal here is sometimes tamales but I, and most people around me, will be eating pollo sandwiches. I have been grateful so far for the warmth of the families here so I am not doing bad...but its not quite Christmas yet so we'll see. (T-Day brought on a shocking wave of sadness.) I am spending the holidays with my school director and her family in San Miguel. Its kind of nice that its so different here because if it was more of the same I feel like I would be sadder. I did get to buy myself some presens today tho: cream cheese, a new pillow, and parmesan for my pasta! I can't wait. seriously. My dad and sister collaborated to send me a package with a planner, velveeta shells and cheese, and green tea..Boy, was I in heaven. Nothing beats comfort food.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah, Feliz Navidad, and Happy New Year to everyone! I hope you are as blessed as I am this Christmas to be sharing your life with people you love.

UPDATE: My ringworm is back and not sure if told you but at its peak I had 8. They went away after getting some prescription creme BUT, now, it looks like its back and I have about 6. UGH!
